Public Space Protection Orders for Persistent Idling
The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is introducing a bespoke Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to tackle persistent engine idling within the borough and help achieve its air quality objectives. This new measure will give enforcement officers the power to issue fines. The PSPO has been supported by a public consultation and agreed at both Regulatory Committee and Full Council. It applies to the whole of the borough but the initial pilot will focus on areas such as schoold, level crossings and areas of complaint. It complements over 5 years of ongoing behaviour-change campaigns and warnings from Civil Enforcment Officers to motorists in the borough.
